VIRTUAL SKILLS GROUP | 10 WEEKS | DBT-INFORMED
You can’t calm your child from a place you haven’t found yet.
A 10-week skills group for parents and caregiver who want to regulate their own emotions - so they can actually be present for the child who needs them most.
Virtual (Teams) | 10 weekly sessions | Small group format | no DBT experience needed
If your child's big emotions trigger your big emotions — that's not a character flaw. It's neuroscience.
When someone we love is dysregulated, our nervous systems feel it too. For parents of emotionally sensitive, intense, or struggling children, this happens dozens of times a day. And nobody talks about how exhausted, guilty, and isolated that makes caregivers feel.
DBT — Dialectical Behaviour Therapy — was built for exactly this: learning to hold two truths at once. You're doing your best, and you can do it differently. This group is for caregivers who are ready to stop white-knuckling it and start building real skills.
THE CURRICULUM
Four DBT skill areas, adapted for parenting
You'll walk away with concrete tools you can use that same week.
Mindfulness
The foundation of everything. Learning to observe what's happening inside you before it comes out of your mouth.
Distress tolerance
What to do in the crisis moments — when you're already past your limit and your child needs you anyway.
WHO THIS IS FOR
You belong here if any of this sound familiar
This group is for caregivers — parents, grandparents, step-parents, guardians — who are doing their best and want to do it with more skill and less guilt.
✓ - Your child's meltdowns trigger your own — and you don't always recover quickly
✓ - You've yelled and immediately felt terrible about it
✓ - Your child has been described as sensitive, intense, anxious, explosive, or difficult
✓ - You feel isolated — like other parents don't understand what you're dealing with
✓ - You know what you "should" do in the moment, but can't access it when things are heated
✓ - You want your child to learn emotional regulation — and realize it has to start with you
Emotion regulation
Understanding your own emotional patterns — not just your child's — and learning to shift them before they escalate.
Interpersonal effectiveness
Responding instead of reacting — and keeping the relationship intact even in the hardest conversations.
HOW IT WORKS
A real group. Real skills. Real support.
Not a webinar. Not a course you'll never finish. A live, facilitated group where you actually practice the skills with other parents who get it.
📅
10 weekly sessions
One 90-minute session per week, same time each week so it fits into your routine.
💻
Fully Virtual
No commuting, no childcare logistics. Just open Zoom.
👥
Small Group
Maximum 10 participants. Enough for community, small enough for real conversation.
A note on who this isn't for
This group won't be the right fit if you're looking for one-on-one support — it's a group experience by design.
If your child is in immediate danger or you are experiencing a safety concern, please contact emergency services or a crisis line.
If you're in crisis, please reach out to a mental health professional directly.
No experience required
You don't need to know anything about DBT to join.
“People are doing the best they can”
“Figuring out and changing the causes of a behavior is a more effective way to change than judging and blaming”
